Many of System Five's features are ideally suited to computer sales and service shops. While many of the computer store requirements aren't different from regular retail, some aspects of the business require sophisticated tools to manage efficiently.

System Five has many invoicing options to smooth out the workflow. A potential sale can start life as a quotation or Estimate, and be converted to a Work Order with a single click. This work-in-progress invoice allows custom machines to be built, with labour and parts ordered, commented on, and sold as they're processed within the shop. Invoices can be further sorted into colour-coded 'sub types' so you can see, at a glance, which jobs haven't been started, or are complete and waiting for pickup. Converting a work order to a final sale takes only one more click, and if the customer buys some more gear when they come to collect the machine, you can just add it to the sale without effort.

System Five has sophisticated kit-building tools, so that a computer can be assembled and sold in the way that best fits the business. You might not want all the components of a pre-built computer to be listed on the invoice, so they can roll-up into the main unit. Perhaps the components should be listed so they can be swapped out as the customer tailors the configuration to their needs. With the appropriate kit you can control the way your components are sold from stock, how the pricing is handled, how it's displayed to your staff, and to the customer.

System Five can track the details of your important stock, so that specific video card serial numbers are recorded, but no such requirement is made for mousepads. A full return-merchandise system allows you to accept returns for warranty work, and record their status: in transit, at the supplier, waiting for pickup, etc. System Five knows how these actions affect the books, so your accounts won't go out of balance while these transactions are going on.

System Five tracks your technician time too, so that labour is accurately recorded and billed accordingly. Conversations with suppliers, customers or other staff can be noted, deposits and payments recorded, and you can even add miscellaneous shop supply charges to the job.
